A new hearing has begun in the case of the murder of Georgi Ignatov in Borisova Gradina, committed in 2015. Sentenced to six years and six months in prison, Yoan Matev insists on conditional early release - two years after he finally goes behind bars.

In June 2023, the Supreme Court of Cassation confirmed the decision of the lower instance, and the time Matev spent in custody will be deducted from the sentence. The parents of the murdered boy have been awarded 200,000 leva each for the non-pecuniary damage caused.
