The National Statistical Institute announced today the inflation data for May 2025. Monthly inflation for the fifth month of the year is exactly zero percent, while annual inflation increases to 3.7 percent compared to May 2024, the NSI reported.
Inflation is measured by the consumer price index, with monthly inflation showing the change for May 2025 compared to the previous month of April. Annual inflation compares prices in May 2025 with prices from May 2024.
From the beginning of the year to May 2025, inflation reached 1.9 percent compared to December 2024. The average annual inflation for the period June 2024 - May 2025 compared to the period June 2023 - May 2024 amounted to 2.8 percent.
In May 2025, compared to April, the largest increase in prices was in several key groups. Leading among them are "Restaurants and hotels" with a growth of 0.8 percent, followed by "Miscellaneous goods and services" and "Alcoholic beverages and tobacco products" - both with a 0.6 percent increase.
The prices of clothing and footwear also increased by 0.5 percent in May compared to the previous month.
At the same time, a decrease was observed in some sectors. The most significant decrease was in the price of transport by 1.8 percent, followed by communications with a one percent decrease. "Entertainment and culture" reported a decline of 0.9 percent, and the group "Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels" decreased by 0.3 percent.
The data show a stabilization of consumer prices in May, although annual inflation continues to increase compared to last year.
