Geely's Galactic Battleship Takes Aim at the Iconic Defender and Land Cruiser Off-Roaders - 1

The automotive world is on the verge of a spectacular clash, in which the traditions of European and Japanese engineering are now facing the technological power of China. Now the giant Geely has stirred up the spirits by presenting a disguised prototype of its new SUV flagship. And while its international name Galaxy Cruiser sounds almost meek, its original Chinese name translates unambiguously as “Battleship“. Apparently, Beijing has no intention of entering this segment with white gloves.

Despite the designers' attempts to push the thesis of a unique “oriental aesthetics“, the silhouette of the machine leaves no room for doubt who the targets are. The angular shapes, short overhangs and powerful fender arches are a direct reference to the Land Rover Defender and Toyota Land Cruiser Prado. But Geely doesn't just want to copy the looks - they want to prove that their SUV has the same toughness. Currently, prototypes are undergoing severe tests in the icy grip of Arieplog, Sweden, to make sure that the “Battleship“ won't turn into an “ice sculpture“ at the first serious cold snap.

The technological armament of this new predator is impressive. The model is expected to stand on the advanced SEA-R platform, powered by a brutal hybrid system with three electric motors and a turbocharged internal combustion engine. However, the real sensation lies elsewhere - rumors say that the production version will inherit the concept's ability to move on water at speeds of up to 8 km/h. Add to this the four-wheel drive controlled by artificial intelligence and a 70 kWh battery, providing over 350 km of all-electric range, and the picture becomes frightening for the competition.

If the British engineers in Solihull knew decades ago that the biggest threat to their legacy would come with artificial intelligence and the ability to swim! Sales in China are expected to start at the end of 2026, and shortly after that the model will attack the European markets. Yang Tianxiao, the brand's marketing director, has already confirmed the expansion plans, which means we'll soon see if Geely's "Battleship" will be able to sink the established off-road authorities.
