The Bavarian giant BMW is putting a final point in the biography of one of the most spectacular, but also underrated models in its modern history. This month, the factories in Dingolfing will send the last units of the BMW 8 Series (indexes G14, G15 and G16), with which the iconic "eight" finally leaves the scene, leaving an empty place in the brand's range with no prospect of a direct successor.

Although it debuted in 2018 with great ambitions and in three different silhouettes - a classic coupe, an airy convertible and the practical but elegant Gran Coupe - the model never managed to develop its full market potential potential. The sunset began in early 2025, when the Bavarians quietly retired the brutal M8 versions. To date, the only surviving flagship in production is the four-door version, which has the honor of closing the last chapter of this seven-year odyssey.

The decision of the management in Munich is dictated by pragmatism and a reorientation of focus. The production lines at the concern's largest European powerhouse will be transformed to make way for the new generation of the BMW 3 Series (G50). And although fans hoped that the Neue Klasse architecture could breathe new, electric life into the model, the company is currently burning these illusions. Rumors of a resurrection of the Series 6 or a radically new electric Gran Tourer remain only in the realm of wishes, as BMW prefers to invest in more mass and commercially sustainable segments.

In retrospect, the BMW Series 8 offered everything – from balanced six-cylinder units to powerful V8 hearts capable of accelerating the pulse of any enthusiast. The final chord was struck with the special series M850i Edition M Heritage, whose circulation of only 500 copies is already the subject of collector's interest. Alas, even the status of a technological flagship and supreme comfort were not enough to save this grand tourer in the era of SUV dominance and strict corporate efficiency.
