General Motors' GMC Hummer EV, powered by Ultium technology, is the automaker's first foray into the electric passenger car segment. With an emphasis on power and cutting-edge features, the model attracted considerable attention, reflected in a remarkable sales jump in 2024. In the first quarter of the year, sales jumped by a staggering 83,330%, although this figure requires some context.
Digging into the data reveals the main reasons for such a dramatic increase. In the first three months of 2023, when GMC ramped up production of the Hummer EV SUV, only two units were sold. That pales in comparison to the 1,668 units sold during the same period in 2024. Although GMC ends 2023 with 3,260 units sold, the company is on track to surpass that figure this year, though not by 80,000 percent.< /p>
The GMC Hummer EV is available in two body styles - a pickup truck and an SUV, both of which carry a hefty price tag of $98,845 for the 2024 model year, including a $2,295 destination charge. The twin-engine variant offers 570 hp. and a range of up to 500 kilometers, and the three-engine configuration available in the 3X modification, starting at $106,945, provides up to 1,000 hp. and mileage up to about 700 kilometers.
Despite its impressive mileage, the Hummer EV's performance isn't particularly remarkable. Its long range is primarily due to the use of a huge battery pack with a capacity of 246 kilowatt hours (212 kWh of usable power).
