Due to the difficult financial situation, Nissan may cease to exist. And it could happen in just 12 months. Such a forecast was given to the Financial Times by one of the top managers of the Japanese brand.
According to the expert, the brand will survive only if it manages to find a major investor, which could be a bank or a large insurance group. Otherwise, Nissan will be swallowed up by other car manufacturers.
The acute funding shortfall occurred at the company after Renault decided to reduce its stake in Nissan through the sale of shares. Before that, the French had 46 percent of the shares.
In addition to investments from banks and insurance groups, the brand's management is considering the possibility of selling part of its shares in Honda. At the same time, even Renault may transfer its assets from Nissan to Honda.
It should be noted that earlier the former head of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance Carlos Ghosn said that Honda will absorb its partners in the future. Then the top manager reported that the unification of three Japanese manufacturers could become part of Honda's plan to covertly absorb smaller brands.
At the end of July, Nissan already reduced the volume of car production at its Japanese plant. The brand's management took this step due to a serious decrease in profits.
