Volvo has presented official images of its all-new XC70 crossover, which features a new body color called “Sandy Desert“, but more importantly, it will be equipped with internal combustion engines.

The car is built on the all-new SMA platform and is positioned as a mid-size SUV with a plug-in hybrid drive. Pre-orders for the model will start in August 2025, and its full market launch is expected in September 2025.

Design and dimensions

The exterior of the new XC70 demonstrates Volvo's signature electric style. The front is equipped with a "blind" radiator grille, individual LED headlights with daytime running lights in the shape of "Thor's hammer" and an active lower grille. The latter can be opened and closed independently to optimize the temperature regime of the engine and battery.

From the side, the car has an elegant silhouette with hidden glass seals, frameless doors and retractable handles. Several clear horizontal lines give the profile a dynamic look. The dimensions of the XC70 are 4815 mm long, 1890 mm wide and 1650 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2895 mm. The car will be available with R19 or R20 wheels. The rear looks massive, with vertical branded lights and the Volvo logo in the center of the trunk.

Interior and drive

The interior, according to spy photos, is designed in the typical Scandinavian minimalist style. The center console has only one optimally sized multimedia screen, the number of physical buttons is minimized, and wireless charging is also available.

The power unit includes a 1.5-liter gasoline engine (120 kW), combined with an electric motor. Buyers will be offered two battery options - with lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) or with the so-called ternary (NCM) chemistry. The range in purely electric mode is expected to reach 200 km.
