Prof. Rumen Draganov: More and more archaeological excavations are being carried out in our country, which is beneficial for tourism - 1

More and more archaeological excavations are being carried out in Bulgaria, which is beneficial for tourism. Such is the example of “Heraclea Sintica”, which creates new jobs and improves the local economy. The same is true of “Perperikon” and Tatul. This was said by Prof. Rumen Draganov – director of the Institute for Analysis and Evaluation of Tourism, in the studio of “The Day Live” by NOVA NEWS.

However, he stressed that such a return on the funds spent on such archaeological excavations cannot be expected, but it is important that the cultural heritage is preserved.

The creation of a guarantee fund in tourism

Draganov commented on the creation of a guarantee fund in tourism. He pointed out that in order for a European directive to be implemented, this fund must be adopted before the new year. The expert also commented that this would guarantee tourists security and added that the money from this fund would not come from the state. The question of where these funds will come from remains to be resolved, he added.

How did the tourist season go?

Draganov explained that the season was extremely successful, and the country was visited by many foreigners.

Revenues of 8 billion leva are expected, he added.

Tourism and the euro

The expert said that Bulgarian tourism has no problem with the introduction of the single currency, since it has been used for a long time – offers are also offered in euros.
