Martin Dimitrov: This leftist government is pushing Bulgaria towards higher taxes - 1

The budget has been breached, the deficit has been missed. This government of the new leftist beginnings has made a dangerous left turn, which could lead to an increase in taxes in Bulgaria. This was warned on the sidelines of parliament by the MP from the PP-DB's PG Martin Dimitrov.

„The government agreed to raise social security contributions and it sounds as if they will raise them as early as next year, which would be a brake on the country's development. The current leftist government is violating a 25-year consensus that when there are problems with the deficit, measures should be taken. Now there are no measures, on the contrary - they are pouring gasoline on the fire, giving these 5.5 billion leva through state-owned companies, i.e. through BEH and BDB, which only increases the problem and at some point will make it uncontrollable”, Dimitrov warns.

He pointed out that the country is at a critical moment and measures must be taken as soon as possible.

My colleagues and I have proposed over 20 ideas for economy, efficiency and effectiveness of spending, i.e. to reduce them immediately, or else taxes will increase from tomorrow. The current government is pushing Bulgaria towards higher taxes, which will reduce the potential for development and kill the momentum, the MP added.

In his words, if adequate measures are not taken, Bulgaria is threatened by a Greek scenario. However, he stressed that such a development has nothing to do with our admission to the eurozone.

„The euro has nothing to do with this topic. The problem is the Bulgarian left-wing government, the problem is not in the eurozone. I can even say that the euro will bring some stability, but if these extravagant spending continue... People, they have taken out nearly 16 billion leva in loans and will take more until the end of the year – no one has taken out so many loans in the recent history of Bulgaria”, the politician also said.

In turn, Ivaylo Mirchev said that they are only proposing right-wing reforms and optimization of the administration, without taking out more loans and without raising taxes.

„Someone wants to finance their thefts by raising taxes in order to take more money from us. This will not work”, Mirchev told the media.
