With 100 votes "for", 2 "against" and three abstentions, the National Council of the Bulgarian Socialist Party accepted the rotational principle of the chairmanship of the National Assembly between the three parties in the coalition. This was announced at a briefing after the meeting by BSP leader Atanas Zafirov, NOVA reported.

"We insist that it be explicitly included in the agreement for joint governance and that the policies described in it be reviewed", Zafirov said.

"BSP remains consistent in its efforts for stability and protection of Bulgarian citizens", added the socialist leader, quoted by BNT.

The decision was supported as an expression of political responsibility and consistency in the commitments made for stability in governance and predictability in parliamentary work.

The BSP coalition council in Levski, held this week, also unanimously supported the decision for rotation and continued participation of the coalition in the joint governance of the country.

When discussing and adopting the 2026 budget, the BSP will insist on an increase in the incomes of all workers people, preserving the Swiss rule for pensioners and supporting young families and children.

"We will present to the partners in the joint management our vision for a fairer tax and social security system that would ease the burden on working people and low-income families, while at the same time guaranteeing sustainable revenues for the state", the BSP announced.

The National Council assigned the Finance and Economy Committee to develop a vision for tax and social security reform under the motto "fairness, statehood, development".

The Bulgarian Socialist Party expects the government to take all necessary actions to prevent a crisis in the fuel market and to protect national security without compromises and pressure from external interests.

"With these decisions, the Bulgarian Socialist Party upholds its role as a guarantor of social justice, stability and national responsibility in governance," concluded the statement from briefing.

The idea of rotation was proposed by GERB-SDF and "There is such a people" as a mechanism for shared responsibility in governance. If rotation occurs, GERB's candidate for Speaker of the National Assembly will be Raya Nazaryan, the mandate holder announced.
