"We will fight, there is nowhere to stop": Residents of Varna's Chaika neighborhood do not want a green zone - 1

Residents of the Chaika neighborhood in Varna gathered to express their disagreement with the introduction of a green zone in their area. People claim that parking spaces will decrease drastically and even they will not be able to park their own cars.

Many of those present at the discussion about the green zone in Varna united around the opinion that it is not necessary for the Chaika neighborhood, BNT summarized.

Martsiyan Yanakiev: “It is not necessary, since “Chaika” is a residential complex, completed back in the 1970s with all the necessary social facilities and amenities. There can't be a green zone there, because a thousand meters from "Chaika" there is the exit sign for Varna.”

According to residents of the neighborhood, the marked parking spaces are too few, and won't even be enough for the property owners there.

Bistra Ivanova: “There are a total of 10,200 spaces for 45,000-50,000 people in the entire zone. Tell me where the rest of the people will park?”

Dimitar Dimitrov: “It worries me that there is nowhere to park when I get home in the evening.

BNT: After November 20, what are you going to do?

- I'm still doing it now - I wait for an hour or two in the evening for a space to become free, for someone to move, so I can park. When I park, I try not to go anywhere.”

People say that due to its specifics in the “Chaika” neighborhood, a green zone cannot be designated.

Tsvetka Zlateva: “This neighborhood has alleys, spaces between blocks. This can in no way be like a street, have signs... We will fight among ourselves, because the municipality has not made any alternatives.”

Ivan Kavrukov: “In front of our block, there are places that are currently being occupied and still not enough. In the summer, there will be even fewer. There are no buffer parking lots, many things have not been thought out.”

The residents of “Chaika” will continue with the protests after November 20, when the green zone officially comes into effect. People have also made a billboard expressing their position against paid parking in the area.
