The leader of “Yes, Bulgaria“ Ivaylo Mirchev made serious accusations against the law enforcement agencies and the government, describing what is happening in the center of Sofia as a pre-prepared scenario. The reason for his words was the escalation of tension during the protest against Budget 2026, organized by the coalition “We continue the change - Democratic Bulgaria“, reports "Eurocom".
Mirchev signaled that the police cordons were removed at a critical moment, leaving the peaceful demonstrators in dangerous proximity to aggressive groups. "What is happening is that the police were pulled out for some reason. From the protest along the entire Tsar Osvoboditel Blvd. to Vasil Levski Blvd., there is not a single policeman," he said to the bTV camera. The situation developed in front of the MRF headquarters, where the procession was headed. The politician stressed that the agitators in question were paid and had nothing to do with the legitimate protest. He made attempts to contact the Minister of Interior, the Prime Minister and the leader of GERB Boyko Borisov directly.
The situation in front of the party headquarters escalated, with numerous bombs and bottles being thrown, accompanied by chants of "Bulgarians, heroes!" Initially, the police were stationed near the windows of the DPS-New Beginning building, but the massive fire with pyrotechnics forced the uniformed officers to take action to push some of the attendees away. There were also alarming reports of media representatives being injured - a television operator reported that law enforcement used tear gas against journalists.
The demonstration under the slogan "We will not allow them to rob us" began with citizens gathering in front of the Council of Ministers shortly before 6:00 p.m., with traffic in the area being blocked at 5:35 p.m. After the speeches of the PP-DB leaders, around 8:00 p.m. the crowd headed to the headquarters of DPS-New Beginning and GERB.
