Protesters against the government's policy gathered this evening in various places in the country, BTA reported, quoted by dariknews.bg.
In Panagyurishte, people chanting “Resignation“ gathered at the “Eternal Fire“ in the “Apriltsi“ memorial complex. The protest was announced in the municipality by Pavel Hriskov and Daniela Kurtakova, who are municipal councilors from “We continue the change - Democratic Bulgaria“. They told BTA that the protest is civil, not party.
“We have come with one goal - to say that our hearts burn together. In a common truth. We want a dignified future for our children, parents and ourselves. A future that we have responsibly given to some people there, in Sofia. But we see that the future is eroding along with the eroding institutions that should guarantee not only freedom, but also our rights and security“, Hriskov pointed out to the protesters.
That is why we are here today, to say “No“, “We do not want such a government“, “We do not want such a management“, “We do not want such a model anymore“, he listed.
They stole our most precious thing. They stole our time, Kurtakova pointed out for her part. In her words “We have been trampling in the same place for 40 years“. “We don't want to lose the future of our children who will pay loans“, she added.
The organizers demonstrated a torch ritual, which they called “Light from person to person“, with attendees passing the flame through candles. According to the organizers, the gesture aims to emphasize the idea of community, solidarity and peaceful civic expression. They specified that the ritual aims to direct public attention to a better future.
A protest demanding the resignation of the government, as well as against the introduction of the euro, was also held in Ruse. The local administration in the Danube city told BTA that a citizen had filed a notification.
One of the protesters in front of the building of the Regional and Municipal Administration on “Freedom” Square in Ruse carries the Bulgarian national flag, and some of them have distinctive signs of "Union 29", reported BTA Correspondent in Ruse Andrey Kyuchukov.
"The rulers destroyed education, they want to destroy the economy with the introduction of the euro. Our protest is non-partisan. We are "Union 29", "The Irreconcilables", "The Voice of the Voiceless". All parties are a mafia and only want to use us," said the chairman of the "Union 29" association, Lyubomir Petkov, into a microphone before the attendees.
"How can we wake up a dead people? Khans, kings, heroes gave their lives for this land. Bulgaria is not just a territory, soul and heart. Now a soulless people does not sell it, they give it away. "Now is the time for us Bulgarians to take Bulgaria back," added lawyer Vanya Simeonova over the microphone.
