Kostadin Kostadinov: The government intends to give over 1 billion leva to Ukraine - 1

In a statement from the parliamentary rostrum, Kostadin Kostadinov said that the Bulgarian government has decided that Bulgaria will provide between 1 and 1.2 billion leva to Ukraine in the form of a grant-free and interest-free loan - news that has long been denied by the ruling party, but is now a fact according to the minutes of a meeting that ended late in the evening.

According to the chairman of “Vazrazhdane“, the funds will be returned only under two conditions - if Russia pays reparations after losing the war or if the European Union confiscates the frozen Russian assets in “Euroclear“ in Belgium. He stressed that both conditions are unfulfillable, expressing the position that Ukraine is losing the war, and Belgium categorically refuses to allow such a confiscation, as this would lead to serious financial consequences for the country and the European financial system.

Kostadinov said that in practice this loan is a gift that will be paid by Bulgarian citizens - pensioners, workers and taxpayers. He stated that in the conditions of the already pledged 19 billion leva of new debt in the budget, adding another 1 billion leva for Ukraine threatens the country's financial stability. The chairman of “Vazrazhdane“ indicated that these funds would be directed to a country that, in his words, is mired in corruption, referring to statements by representatives of the Ukrainian anti-corruption administration, as well as positions expressed by US President Donald Trump.

The declaration was accompanied by a tense atmosphere in the plenary hall and verbal clashes with deputies from the PP-DB, who shouted "Glory to Ukraine". Kostadin Kostadinov used the occasion to criticize the behavior of the members of parliament and to state that such scenes undermine the authority of the parliament and show that there are people in it who protect foreign national interests, not Bulgarian ones.

He also raised the question of who exactly authorized the fallen government to make such a decision and emphasized that according to "Vazrazhdane“ it is illegal and illegitimate and announced that on the same day the political organization would submit a draft resolution with which it would insist that the National Assembly, after resuming its work after the New Year, cancel the decision to provide the funds.

In his speech, Kostadinov pointed out that there are already three countries from the European Union - the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary - that have refused to support such a financial plan, and stated that Bulgaria could join this group. He warned that if the decision is not canceled, both political and criminal responsibility will be sought from the ruling party, concluding his declaration with a call to protect the Bulgarian national interest and with the words “Long live Bulgaria“.
