For the first time this season, the Sofia Municipality is introducing a Green Ticket for travel in public transport for Saturday (20.12.2025), Sunday (21.12.2025) and Monday (22.12.2025). On the same days, parking in the metro buffer parking lots will be free for all residents and guests of the capital. This was announced by the institution.

The measure is being introduced in connection with the forecast of the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) for fog formation and the potential for pollutant retention (PFH) in the lower atmospheric layers over the weekend.

For the second consecutive year, the administration of Vasil Terziev is addressing the problem preventively, based on forecast data, and not reactively, as was the practice in the past. Although according to NIMH data, the period of calm is expected to end on Monday, the measure remains in force on the first day of the new week in order to ensure its maximum effectiveness.

“We are giving people the opportunity to get informed in time and plan their trips. I call on citizens to support our efforts and leave their cars at home in the coming days, to use public transport for transportation, in order to reduce emissions in the city and improve the quality of the air we all breathe,” said Deputy Mayor for Ecology Nadezhda Bobcheva.

The green ticket is worth 1 leva, is valid for a whole day and can be purchased in the following ways:

With validation of a bank card in the vehicle.

From drivers in the vehicles.

Online via the CGM web portal.

From the CGM and Metropolitan cash desks – on paper or as an electronic ticket loaded into your card.

The green ticket will also be valid for night public transport, and answers to other frequently asked questions will be published on the CGM website.
