A passenger train derailed after a retaining wall fell onto the tracks due to torrential rain near the Spanish city of Barcelona, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA, citing the regional government of Catalonia and several local media.

The train's driver died in the incident and about 20 people were injured.

A train crash in the Spanish autonomous region of Andalusia killed dozens of people on Sunday. Three days of national mourning have been declared.

Twenty ambulances arrived at the scene of the accident on the outskirts of Barcelona, as well as firefighters.

One person has died after torrential rains in the Catalan province of Girona, BNR reported. Over 180 liters of precipitation fell in 12 hours.

A 63-year-old man was swept away with his car by the rising water of a stream. He was reported missing early Tuesday morning.

Due to the high water level, rescue teams were forced to stop the ground search and continue the search from the air. Late in the evening, the drop in the stream level allowed the teams to see the car and find the victim.

The heavy rains forced students in the province of Girona to stay at home. The number of calls received by firefighters in Catalonia due to the rainfall exceeds 1,200, of which 534 are in the province of Girona. Traffic was disrupted throughout the day on the roads there, with some sections closed.
