Today marks one month since Bulgaria joined the eurozone, with which 358 million people share our currency and our future. This was written by the President of the European Central Bank Christine Lagarde in a post on "Facebook".
The statement is part of a series of public comments by Christine Lagarde in the last weeks of 2025 and the beginning of 2026, with which she marks Bulgaria's progress towards membership in the eurozone.
We recall that Bulgaria introduced the euro as its official currency on January 1, 2026. At midnight on January 31, 2026, the one-month period during which the euro and the lev were in circulation together expired. As of today, February 1, the only official means of payment in Bulgaria becomes the single European currency.
