NEK successfully passed the high wave through the "Arda" cascade  - 1

Due to the heavy rainfall over the last 24 hours in the conditions of the declared red code in Southern Bulgaria, yesterday a high wave was registered passing through the three dams of the "Arda" cascade, operated by NEK - "Kardzhali", "Studen Kladenets" and "Ivaylovgrad". and “Ivaylovgrad“.

To date, the high wave has been successfully conducted, thanks to the continuous operational control carried out by the company's experts, the National Electric Company (NEK) announced, BTA wrote.

Within the passing high wave, the peak of the inflow to the first stage of the cascade - the “Kardzhali“ dam, was recorded at 863 m3/sec. In the evening hours of February 5, 2 out of a total of 4 spillway valves of the dam were opened in order to conduct the water quantities and reduce its stagnant volume. With a 24-hour operation mode of the Kardzhali HPP, the maximum recorded water quantity through the spillway is 450 m3/sec.

The peak of the total inflow to the “Studen Kladenets“ dam was recorded at 1,870 m3/sec. In the late hours of February 5, 5 spillway valves of the dam out of a total of 9 were opened. With a 24-hour operation mode of the Studen Kladenets HPP, the maximum overflow water quantity through the spillway is 1,320 m3/sec.

The peak of the total inflow to the “Ivaylovgrad“ dam, the last stage of the cascade, was recorded at 1,750 m3/sec. The dam began overflowing at 11:00 p.m. yesterday, and as of 12:00 p.m. today, the overflow water quantity was 538 m3/sec.

NEK continues to exercise constant operational control over the situation and remains ready to take timely action, the company added.
