It is still unclear whether a Bulgarian prime minister will attend the first meeting of the Peace Council newly formed by US President Donald Trump.
This was stated to the Bulgarian National Radio by Denitsa Sacheva, deputy chairman of the GERB-SDF PG, explaining that the expectations are that by the date when it is to be held - February 19, Bulgaria will already have a caretaker government and then it will have to decide whether its prime minister will attend this meeting and what our relations with the US should be in general.
Bulgaria's accession to Trump's initiative took place with the signature of the resigned prime minister, Rosen Zhelyazkov. Sacheva explained the reasons for the decision with the opportunity it provides for direct communication with the United States and confirmed that GERB-SDF will not submit to this parliament the proposal for ratification of the agreement for participation in the Peace Council:
"This government is resigning. The fact is that in this configuration of the National Assembly, ratification could not pass. Only "DPS-New Beginning" expressed a desire to support such ratification. This would only add grist to the mill of Ivaylo Mirchev, who has been grinding in vain for a long time, who sees either Peevski or "Magnitsky" in everything.
She commented on the canceled parliamentary control on Friday, February 6, explaining that it could be moved next week, and it could also be in writing, so that if the deputies want, they can ask their questions in writing to the resigned Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov:
"The reason we asked for no plenary session was that for the colleagues from the PP-DB, the state is a stage - all the deputies have their phones up and are constantly recording, they are constantly on TikTok. It is very convenient to be in opposition and only criticize, talk nonsense and at the same time receive a high salary".
According to Denitsa Sacheva, Rumen Radev is about to make a hard landing in reality:
"In Reality, we must work together on certain topics and issues in a much broader format. In order for a new Supreme Judicial Council to be elected, a broad political consensus of 160 deputies is necessary. And here any red lines are harmful to the state".
She pointed out that it is still not clear what policies the party project of the former president proposes, so that GERB can give an answer whether they would negotiate for joint governance.
"Mr. Radev has been preparing for this leap for 9 years and suddenly appeared on "Panorama" without telling us anything. ... It is very difficult in such an amorphous situation for us to comment with whom, how and what".
GERB wants to capitalize on Bulgaria's membership in the eurozone, said Denitsa Sacheva and added:
"We want to see more measures and action regarding the modernization of the economy. The labor market to catch up with modern trends, which is related to new legislation. Topics such as artificial intelligence. We want to put all of this on the table and we want these to be our main topics".
With the reduced number of polling stations in countries outside the EU, the rights of Bulgarian citizens are not limited, but the abuse of rights is limited, Sacheva was categorical and emphasized that GERB supported this proposal because it was a proposal from "Vazrazhdane":
"Support was requested from our side and we said that we would support it. This is the commitment. I don't know why a commitment always has to mean a deal? ... Fewer sections allow for better control. In many of the sections it is logistically difficult to organize advocates and observers. This is always extremely difficult abroad and almost never happens".
