Shortly before New Year 2016, the body of Bulgarian Borislav Peev was found in the Lirios beach area on the Mexican island of Cozumel. Born in 1984, the young man had been visiting Ivo Kalushev's "sect", but was rejected by it, BIRD reported. Kalushev himself was very nervous about the news of the death of "Bobby", as he was known in the group.
Peev's death in Mexico was reported on the program "Agenda".
Valery Andreev, who was the first to signal possible violations of the law by Ivaylo Kalushev, recalls that in 2012 Borislav Peev – Bobby visits the boat that Kalushev's group sails across the Atlantic Ocean. He was accompanied by another person named Hristiyan. Valeri could not remember whether this happened in the Canary Islands or Cape Verde, but he is certain that Bobby was on the yacht before Kalushev and his crew - Deyan Iliev, Nevena Staeva and Valeri himself - crossed the ocean and reached the Caribbean.
After the group settled in Mexico and bought the Santa Teresita ranch, Valeri overheard conversations between Ivo Kalushev and his elderly associates that Bobby wanted to come but was not welcome. Sometime around this time in 2013, he noticed Bobby with two suitcases in the area of the ranch from the car.
According to the eyewitness's recollections, it is possible that the deceased was mentally unstable, judging by his behavior in person and on social networks.
“Ah, that's Bobby!”
Valeri Andreev's next memory of Bobby is how he learned about his death.
“Our diving instructor Luis Leal showed us the newspaper with the photo and the article about the death of a Bulgarian and asked us if we knew him. – Ah, that's Bobby! – Plamen /Stattev/ and I exclaimed.
After that, the two of them told Kalushev, and he angrily scolded them: “- Are you stupid? Why are you talking about this with other people?” The young people wondered why they had to keep quiet about the case, given that they had nothing to do with it.
Our team contacted instructor Luis Leal, who confirmed the incident. “Ivo, Plamen and Valeri were my students before they started their own business. Then they left Mexico and I haven't been in touch with them since.” – he said.
On 04.01.2016, the Bulgarian authorities received a message from the Chief Prosecutor's Office of the State of Quintana Roo about the discovery of the body of a man in an advanced stage of decomposition. A passport in the name of Borislav Peev was found among the person's belongings. A case has been opened to clarify the causes of death.
The death of Borislav Peev is not big news for the Bulgarian press. The journalist Momchil Indzhov from the newspaper “24 Chasa” worked on the topic, who remembered that he had tracked down an acquaintance of Peev and talked to him.
BIRD also contacted Peev's acquaintances, who said that he had left for Mexico in November 2015 and had been to Germany and Greece before that. We also tried to contact his relatives, but their numbers were not valid.
To this day, the cause of Borislav Peev's death remains unknown. According to Mexican authorities, the autopsy was performed a few days after the body was found. It was found in an old abandoned building two to three kilometers north of Mescalitos, near the deserted Lirios beach. There is a photo on social media of a beach on the island of Cozumel uploaded by Borislav Peev on December 9, local press reports covering the case note.
Apart from Valeri's claim that Peev was in Mexico in 2013, there is no other evidence or data for this period, two years before his death, but the young man's movements can be tracked if the case is of interest to the authorities.
According to the latest statements by the prosecutor's office on the Petrokhan case, it has undertaken to clarify all the facts and circumstances surrounding Kalushev's group and the six-person murder-suicide of Petrokhan and Okolchitsa.
