On March 3, 1878, all Bulgarians, in all Bulgarian territories, rejoiced and rejoiced. This day united us in this joy. This is a holiday longed for and awaited by generations of Bulgarians during the 5th century of Turkish slavery. This was stated by Patriarch Daniil to journalists after the official ceremony of raising the national flag of Bulgaria.
In his words, this is precisely why it is a holiday of unification – it unites all Bulgarians, including those who were subsequently cut off from the living body of Bulgaria.
„The holiday is still important today, because March 3 is a symbol of the realization of the ideal of generations of Bulgarians. After March 3, we have not been able to unite as a people on these lands where we have lived for generations. The territories of San Stefano Bulgaria were not determined by chance. For generations, our ancestors have declared themselves there, so many censuses have been made, so many struggles. We owe this holiday today in memory of those of our ancestors who stood up and proved that they were Bulgarians, united by one faith, by the Bulgarian language, by being the heirs of one great people, one great state“, the patriarch emphasized.
According to him, today the political reality may be different, but in cultural terms we owe it to bear witness to those of our ancestors who declared their presence wherever they lived: “Today we should remember this and stand for our future united”.
