“Sofia is ready to welcome the Giro d'Italia and show its spirit, energy and hospitality. On May 10, our city will write history - be a part of it“, invited all residents and guests of Sofia, Mayor Vasil Terziev.
The capital is preparing to host the final of the third stage of the Giro d'Italia cycling race - a global event that will attract the attention of hundreds of millions of viewers. In recent days, the symbolic presence of the race mascot on the streets of the city has created a mood and strengthened the feeling of the upcoming great sports holiday.
In the days leading up to the competition, Sofia will offer a program of accompanying events that will turn the city into a stage for great sports.
“The culmination will be the final of the third stage, when the eyes of the world will be directed towards the capital”, adds Terziev and invites everyone to be part of the festive atmosphere.
The official website is now active, as well as the Facebook event, where up-to-date information about the program and preparation can be followed.
In connection with the holding of the event and the need to ensure safe and quality infrastructure, the Sofia Municipality is taking action to renew and secure key road sections in the city.
Repair activities are planned, as well as follows:
blvd. „Samokovsko shosse“ - in the section from blvd. „Copenhagen“ to Sofia Ring Road;
blvd. „Tsarigradsko shosse“ - it is planned to lift manhole covers, and the scope of the repair activities in the section from blvd. „Eminescu“ to blvd. „Evlogi i Hristo Georgievi“ is currently being specified. A coordination procedure is underway for it, after which additional information will be provided;
blvd. „Tsar Osvoboditel“ - in the section from blvd. „Tsarigradsko shosse“ to “Vasil Levski“ Blvd.
Additionally, the “Road Infrastructure“ Agency will carry out repair works on “Samokovsko Shosse“ in the section from the village of Kokalyane to the Sofia Ring Road.
Teams of the Sofia Municipality carried out a detour of the route two weeks ago and continue to coordinate with all competent institutions with the aim of timely and high-quality implementation of the works.
