Tatyana Burudzhieva: It is fatal to overeat with enormous power - 1

On the air of NOVA TV, political scientist Assoc. Prof. Tatyana Burudzhieva commented on the political situation in our country after the early parliamentary elections on April 19, won categorically by Rumen Radev's new formation. According to the analyst, the former head of state has maintained the image of a different leader over the past nine years, but now he is facing completely new challenges as the first political force.

"Radev's voters are divided into several groups, but to what extent their interests will be resolved remains to be seen. On the one hand, if we look at the studies on the study of values, Bulgaria maintains high levels of governance with a strong hand," Assoc. Prof. Burudzhieva said on the program "Ofansiva".

After Rumen Radev left the presidential post in January this year to head the "Progressive Bulgaria" party, his formation secured a crushing advantage of nearly 45% of the vote in April. However, this large-scale victory and the lack of political balance hide their traps.

"The most fatal thing is when you have so much power, to overeat with it", warned Burudzhieva, referring to the upcoming presidential elections later in the year, which will be the first major test for the new government and its attempt to maintain its influence over "Dondukov" 2.

The political scientist outlined inflation and judicial reform as the main obstacles facing the new rulers. "Rising prices and reforms in the judiciary are the first two challenges that the government will face. The budget is more than just dealing with prices," she explained to NOVA.

According to her, at the beginning of the mandate, the lack of a sharp opposition could play a bad joke on the majority. "In the first months, some of the parties will treat "Progressive Bulgaria" as a real winner. Some will try to criticize, but they won't be powerful enough. We won't see votes of no confidence right away. This calmness could be a very big risk for a government," the expert added.

Regarding the second political force in the new parliament, Burudzhieva was categorical that GERB remains the party with the richest history in the legislative body, but its structure needs serious change. "It depends on them whether they will be able to renew themselves. This renewal must take place in a heavy opposition," the political analyst concluded.
