Andrey Gyurov: People want checks and balances in power, not all eggs in one basket - 1

“The main goal of this campaign is not to make empty promises, but to know why we are entering and to have a plan. It was important to have an initiative committee, a plan for what we are doing and a team so that we could announce a serious candidacy. One that will give all democratically minded people in the country a chance to have a representative in the presidential institution.“ He said this on the show “Face to Face“ on bTV Andrey Gyurov from “We continue the change“, who today announced his candidacy for president in the upcoming vote on October 25.

According to him, the people he met in the country were the motivation for him to run for the presidential race.

“After leaving the caretaker government, we continued to have many conversations with Bulgarian citizens. I traveled the country and managed to reach places where usually representatives of the authorities do not reach. People believe that we are currently at a very important turning point in the history of our country, because we see a concentration of power in only one hand“, said Gyurov.

“The Bulgarian does not like this - to put all his eggs in one basket. Moreover, we have bitter experience from the past, when we have seen such a concentration and it did not lead to anything good. People really want to see what is enshrined in the state government by the Constitution, namely checks and balances of the various powers“, Andrey Gyurov pointed out.

He explained that he has known Georgi Kandev since 2021 and has seen his work in the field.

“I was extremely impressed by the way he exercises his powers and implements decisions. That is why I invited him to the caretaker government and he met all expectations and even exceeded them. For the first time in many years, we had elections that were conducted in a way that was not questioned by either the winners, the losers, or international observers," said Gyurov.

On the other hand, he has received high recognition for his work, he is a well-known figure, and according to Andrey Gyurov, the two complement each other very well.

„We are looking for broad civic support, and that is why I am not running as a party candidate, but am supported by a strong initiative committee. By people who will be presented next week,“ he pointed out.

Gyurov mentioned several names - actors Eli Skorcheva, Ivaylo Hristov, writers Zahari Karabashliev and Zdravka Evtimova, public figures such as Georgi Lozanov, Vesselin Metodiev, Ekaterina Mihaylova, etc.

For him, the president should have at least two functions. On the one hand, to shed light on the problems and major issues facing the state. He must be able to say what they are and put them on the agenda.

As a next step, he must be able to explain to citizens how decisions on each problem affect their lives.
