The director of the Italian Lyceum, Ivan Kapurdov, has been dismissed from his post. This is done by order of the Acting Minister of Culture Nayden Todorov (pictured), reports “Epicenter”. The reason is that there has been tension built up over the last year in the elite school, which was provoked by the actions of the director Kapurdov and one of his deputies – Alexander Ivanov, who in the meantime has himself asked to leave.
The decision of the Ministry of Culture comes after numerous complaints and reports from parents and the Board of Trustees of the National Educational Complex for Culture and the Lyceum for the Study of Italian Language and Culture against the actions of Kapurdov and Ivanov, including the illegal spending of funds.
After a subsequent inspection by the Inspectorate at the Ministry of Culture, the only logical decision was reached – the director of be released. Ironically, Kapurdov was appointed after a competition held during the previous mandate of the Acting Minister of Culture.
However, the negative consequences of the one-year rule of the Kapurdov-Ivanov tandem in the Italian Lyceum are present and it will take a long time to overcome them. A few days ago, the Ministry of Culture received new reports against the former management of the school for gifted children, this time because of chaos with the admission of first graders. Parents suspect that Kapurdov or someone close to him published invalid results of the admission procedure for the first grade on May 8 on the school's website. The exported lists were without the principal's signature and without the seal of the school. Paradoxically, some of those ranked had results above 100 points, given that the maximum score is precisely 100. At the moment, the educational complex is calling for calm and assures that by May 18, the actual lists of ranked children for the new school year will be published.< /p>
The Board of Trustees of NUKKLIIEK recall that the problems with the admission of first-graders were initiated by the already former director Ivan Kapurdov and his deputy Alexander Ivanov. In the first days of accepting documents, applications were recorded, but no incoming numbers were issued. This vice was removed only after the intervention of parents and teachers. Unprecedented in the history of the school established in 1976, the competition was awarded to a private company. The composition of the committee that prepares the exam for admission to first-graders was also changed. Instead of the usual professors from the University of Sofia “St. Kliment Ohridski“, this year, by order of Kapurdov, the commission included a psychologist, a former graduate of the lyceum and two retired directors of municipal kindergartens. It was established that one of them was even dismissed from her position precisely because of a scandal involving illegal admission of children for a fee.
After the removal of Kapurdov and the departure of Ivanov, teachers and parents of students from the Italian Lyceum in Gorna Banya, will still look for solutions to the accumulated problems, expecting assistance from the Ministry of Culture to ensure calm in the school after the tremors and tension from the last year.
