The salary of each representative of the teaching staff in the state higher education institutions will be increased by BGN 290. This was agreed today at a meeting between the Acting Minister of Education and Science, Prof. Galin Tsokov, with representatives of trade unions and the Council of Rectors, the press center of the Ministry of Education and Science reported, as quoted by BTA.

Last week, the MES transferred the available BGN 39 million from the budget to the university accounts. They ensure the increase of the minimum salary for the lowest academic position to BGN 2,100, starting from January 1, 2024. Funding is also provided for an increase in the salary of all other academic positions, by an average of BGN 240. This would create disparities between different academic positions. Therefore, in the course of the negotiations, the caretaker government is committed to providing BGN 5.8 million, which is part of the additional BGN 40.7 million allocated to the universities. With them, an equal step will be achieved in increasing the salaries of all teachers with 290 BGN each.

It was also proposed to increase the salary of administrative staff and research staff in universities by 12 percent. This was supported by the trade unions, and it is expected that there will be an opinion from the Council of Rectors within the framework of tomorrow. The estimates of the Ministry of Education and Culture show that about BGN 26 million of the BGN 40.7 million secured will be needed for this measure.

The remaining BGN 7.5 million will be allocated to increase doctoral scholarships.

"We will act as quickly as possible so that the additional funds on the accounts of the universities can arrive as close as possible to May 24, so that we show respect for our higher schools,", emphasized Minister Galin Tsokov.

As BTA wrote, the official cabinet provided nearly BGN 80 million additionally for the remunerations in the state higher education institutions, the government press service announced yesterday. From the announcement it became known that the two decrees for allocating the funds, for which the acting Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev made a commitment to the Council of Rectors and Trade Unions last week, have already been adopted by the Council of Ministers.
