Ivan Demerdzhiev appointed himself a guard while he was the acting Minister of the Interior. This was announced by Kalin Stoyanov in response to a journalistic question, reported "Focus".
"I have scheduled an inspection today. "I was very surprised how Minister Demerdzhiev, as Minister of the Interior, appointed himself a guard, and that he was guarded by colleagues from the Berets," the minister said.
When asked for reasons, he said: "There are none".
Kalin Stoyanov also gave more details about the guard that Demerdzhiev self-appointed:
"It is about about 20 people who were engaged in this guard. In a shift mode, 4 people in a team traveled in a car. This thing cost about 40 thousand leva for about 20 days - we are talking about overnight stays, travel, fuel, housing, etc.".
He also said that while he was director of the General Directorate of the Interior, he actually saw that Demerdzhiev was guarded by Berets. According to him, however, after a publication in the media, the security guards "somehow disappeared".
"There was some article on this occasion. The security guards somehow disappeared. I was the director of the Directorate for the Prevention of Corruption and I saw how the security guards accompanied him even to the office in the ministry," explained Demerdzhiev.
While he was still a minister, the Inspectorate to the Council of Ministers began an investigation. A report, personally signed by Demerdzhiev, explains that the security guards were appointed to protect him from citizens and police officers from the regional directorates of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
"Subsequently, I understand that an investigation was ordered by the Inspectorate to the Council of Ministers. Then, in one of the documents that Mr. Demerdzhiev personally signed as a report and sent to the inspectorate, it is stated that he needs security to protect and accompany him during his meetings with citizens and during his meetings with police officers from the relevant regional directorates of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, added Kalin Stoyanov.
