The Constitutional Court ruled: The mandate of Desislava Atanasova and Borislav Belazelkov will be 7, not 9 years  - 1

The mandate of the constitutional judges Desislava Atanasova and Borislav Belazelkov is 7 years. The decision was adopted unanimously with 10 votes.

This was announced by the Constitutional Court.

The magistrates decided that their mandate should be 7 years because of the delay in the procedure for their election.

The standard term of a constitutional judge is 9 years.

Today, July 9, 2024, the Constitutional Court ruled with a decision on constitutional case No. 3/2024, declaring as unconstitutional the Decision on the election of a judge in the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Bulgaria, the first of the 49th Hapodno dated January 19, 2024 (obn. DB, p. 7 of 2024), in the part “in place of Grozdan Nikolov Iliev for a period of 9 years” and Decision on the election of a judge in the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Bulgaria, the first of the 49th National Session of January 19, 2024 (published DB, p. 7 of 2024), in the part "in place of Anastas Vasilev Anastasov" for a period of 9 years“.

The request to establish the unconstitutionality of the decisions on the election of constitutional judges, approved by the 49th Supreme Court on January 19, 2024 (pron. DB, p. 7 of 2024), was rejected in its remaining part.
