We stand firmly behind the people of Svoge municipality against the extraction of gold and other precious metals. This is what the deputy from "Vazrazhdane" told journalists on the sidelines of the parliament. Angel Slavchev, reported Novini.bg.
In the municipality of Svoge, a subscription has started, we went to the place to see where these boreholes will be. These are extremely nice places, tourist sites around Bov station, Lakatnik, where drilling will be done 50 meters from people's houses, said Slavchev.
It all starts with a decision of the Ministry of Energy from 2021, which allows the extraction of minerals. It is one big block of 166 square kilometers. More than 50 boreholes are planned. The biggest problem is water, as the soil in the area is karst. People have huge concerns that the water may be contaminated, the MP from "Vazrazhdane" pointed out.
That is why we will try to initiate a local referendum, as they did in the municipality of Bozhurishte and stopped for the moment, as there was the same threat there. We will try to do the same in the municipality of Svoge, as well as to oppose this further stupidity of our executive power, announced Angel Slavchev.
I had a meeting with the Minister of Environment and Water, Petar Dimitrov, who is the former director of the "Basin Directorate-Pleven", which is responsible for this area, and he told me how dangerous it is to drill in this area, so as there is a danger of the water stopping. We strongly stand behind the people of Svoge, Slavchev also said.
