The law enforcement authorities do not know where Rumen Gaitanski-Valka and Stoyan Mavrodiev are , the former director of the Bulgarian Development Bank.
Yesterday, the Anti-Corruption Commission, the Prosecutor's Office and the GDBOP began searches in the offices and residences of Rumen Gaitanski.
The action is related to Gaitanski's unpaid loan of around BGN 150 million from the Bulgarian Development Bank.
„Many political comments appeared. The case was initiated in October 2022 after a report on the loan granted in 2019. "An investigation is being conducted for a crime in the line of duty," said Desislava Petrova, deputy city prosecutor, quoted by BTV.
„On May 5, 2023, the case was closed by the supervising prosecutor due to lack of evidence. Gaps in the investigation were found, as the possibility of another composition of the crime, other than an official crime, was not investigated, she added.
Witnesses were questioned before a judge. Additional documents are required from institutions. The pre-trial proceedings were continued by the Anti-Corruption Commission. It has been deemed necessary to carry out the searches and seizures authorized by the Sofia City Court.
Mostly documents have been collected. Several cars have been impounded, three of which are of high value, added the prosecutor's office.
Three have been brought in as accused.
„It concerns job assignment on a particularly large scale. Evidence is currently being collected. It is clarified whether there is appropriation by other persons from the Bulgarian Development Bank. It is possible that evidence will be collected and other charges will be brought – money laundering, for some of the persons”, specified Deyan Zahariev, deputy city prosecutor.
The defendants are Stoyan Mavrodiev, Rumen Gaitanski and a representative of the company that used the loan. For Mavrodiev, the charge is for embezzlement. The representative of the company, Ivan Georgiev, has been identified. He was detained for 24 hours yesterday.
The KPCONPI announced that during the investigation they gathered data that the company "Bio Mining", also managed by Gaitanski, gave a loan to another company related to him, "Kristalna Voda", and it, in turn, through In 2019, Varna TPP paid off its debts to a commercial bank. At that time, the majority owner of TPP Varna was the honorary chairman of DPS Ahmed Dogan.
The prosecutor's office did not specify whether the honorary chairman of the DPS Ahmed Dogan will be questioned.
