Fandakova: Infringing on the dignity of the Bulgarian teacher is a crime

This is pre-election PR that uses inadmissible means. If in politics it is said that the end justifies the means, in education it is not. Freedom of opinion is an inalienable right.

Fandakova: Infringing on the dignity of the Bulgarian teacher is a crime - 1

Respecting the rights and dignity of teachers is not just a norm of the law (Art. 219), but a principle on which our educational system rests. Being a teacher is a profession-a vocation. This is the case for the majority of my colleagues. I say this as a teacher, school director, former minister of education and mayor who was responsible for nearly 200 municipal schools. To attack the dignity of the Bulgarian teacher is a crime. I say this to those who report to the prosecutor's office against teachers and call them criminals. This is what is written on "Facebook" Yordanka Fandakova - current deputy from GERB.

"This is election PR that uses impermissible means. If in politics it is said that the end justifies the means, in education it is not. Freedom of opinion is an inalienable right. A right that is also taught in school. The use of profanity and offensive language in politics is a practice that is not tolerated at school. I believe this should be the case in our society as well. Threats against teachers are not only unacceptable, but also a dangerous precedent," she adds.

"School is not a place for propaganda – whatever she is! And Bulgarian teachers know this better than all the politicians put together. I know for sure that they would not become either ideologues or propagandists, because they never were. "Politics has no place in school!", Fandakova is categorical.

"As a member of the Committee on Education in the National Assembly, I firmly oppose any attempt to pressure teachers and will continue to work for changes in Bulgarian education, related to increasing its quality with the active participation of the people who know best -well what do children need to be successful people – the Bulgarian teachers", she also writes.
