Day before the 80th anniversary of the coup on September 9, 1944, in the program “This Sunday” Stanka Zheleva, the daughter of the first democratically elected president Zhelyu Zheleva, is a guest on bTV.
„This date should be declared a day of national mourning, because this is the day Bulgaria was officially occupied by a foreign army and subordinated to foreign interests. The entire political and intellectual elite of Bulgaria was massacred. The destinies of hundreds of thousands of people were shattered. Our entire Bulgarian history was manipulated and, in fact, September 9 is a long-realized dream of Russian imperialism, said Stanka Zheleva, quoted by novini.bg.
Her father - Zhelyu Zhelev, is fighting exactly against this – it is often associated with the break with totalitarianism, with the rise of democracy.
„My father did a lot for Bulgaria, but unfortunately his work has been forgotten. He fought for us to be an independent country, with an independent policy. We are located in a key location in Europe that can be a balance in the entire region. Instead of having a policy in which we can protect our national interests and balance them, they have been sold by our politicians who work for those who give them money, Stanka Zheleva also said.
In her words, if her father were with us right now, he would be terribly disappointed by what was happening. “The powerlessness of seeing the absolute impunity of arrogant mobsters. Political parties are commercial companies that work according to their interest – who gives money”, added Zhelyu Zhelev's daughter.
„I am very tempted to enter politics, but you have to have like-minded people and that is quite difficult. For me, the most important thing is to work for civil society“, explained Stanka Zheleva.
