Dimo Gyaurov: An incredible drama can happen in Bulgaria - 1

No one can give an answer to the question of how the situation in the Middle East will develop. Surely a Palestinian state will not emerge in the area in the foreseeable future, surely the destruction will continue. Lebanon has been torn by internal contradictions for years. I don't know what the solution is. We have to rely on common sense on both sides. This is what he said in the show "More from the day" on BNT the former director of the National Intelligence Service Dimo Gyaurov.

We are interesting as an intermediate point. 7-8 years ago, when the migrant flows started, a huge amount of migrants passed through our territory. Fortunately, they didn't want to stay here then, but moved on to Western Europe. However, now the situation is radically different - the Schengen agreements are not working, European countries, such as Germany, are closing their borders. If the return of migrants begins, an incredible drama will happen in Bulgaria. Germany spends 25 billion euros annually on the maintenance of migrants, and Bulgaria cannot afford even a fraction of this amount. I don't even want to think about what will happen if migrants return to our country, said Gyaurov.

In his words, in Bulgaria the problem with migrants is being forgotten. The security of our border requires serious concern. I claim that our border is compromised, there is an urgent need to saturate it with equipment. It is not that difficult to install equipment and operate it, but we do not manage to do it. In this case, both an expert and a political decision are needed, the former intelligence chief pointed out.

It seems that the opinion is brewing throughout Europe that the continent must move from integrating migrants to defending its borders. This is the work of the Ministry of the Interior and the services. It is also about a different attitude towards those involved in the conflict, as Erdogan, for example, could simply skip another wave of migrants to punish Israel. We are, more or less, his hostages and there must be close coordination with both Turkey and the European Union. A very spectacular threat hangs over the European Union, emphasized Dimo Gyaurov.

In response to a question, he commented that Bulgaria will also be admitted to land-based Schengen, when it fully fulfills the criteria for this.

The Schengen decision is a political one. Until we succeed in convincing our partners that we have done our job, there is no way this decision will be made, Gyaurov also said.
