During the time he was acting as the chief prosecutor, Borislav Sarafov could not convince in any way that he was any different from his predecessors Ivan Geshev and Sotir Tsatsarov. People who want to see a different face of the judicial system and prosecutor's office, it is quite normal to protest against such an election, which is expected to take place in about a few months. This is what he said in the show "More from the day" according to BNT, the expert from the Anti-Corruption Fund Andrey Yankulov, quoted by novini.bg. The reason for his speech is the protest in Sofia against the only nomination for a new chief prosecutor – that of Borislav Sarafov.
In its current composition, the Supreme Judicial Council, firstly because its mandate has expired, secondly – has lost all public legitimacy with his actions in managing the judiciary, he added.
Ivan Geshev was elected by this SJC without an alternative, after which for several years he left without an adequate response many seriously motivated requests to remove Geshev early. Then, after leading political forces declared that Geshev should vacate the post, the SJC turned 180 degrees and terminated his mandate. There was also a leaked recording of a conversation between a member of the SJC and Geshev, which unequivocally spoke of political influence on the SJC. Therefore, we cannot expect this composition of the SJC to make an adequate choice of the chief prosecutor, emphasized Yankulov.
One very important question remained unclear - about Sarafov's connections with the criminal network known as the "Eight Dwarfs". A photo of Sarafov with the leader of this group - Pepi Evroto - also appeared, the expert noted.
The situation is dynamic. Perhaps we have to wait for the results of the elections, but in order to reach this nomination, the expectation of those who nominated him is that the necessary majority in the SJC is gathered and this candidacy will be elected in January next year. At the moment, this is the most the realistic scenario. The alternative scenario is for a new majority in the next National Assembly to proceed with the speedy election of a new SJC, but so far this scenario does not seem very realistic, commented Andrey Yankulov.
In his words, the arrest of the independent deputy and candidate for deputy from the Alliance for Rights and Freedoms Ceyhan Ibryamov is illegal. The expert from the Anti-Corruption Fund called for an extraordinary meeting of the National Assembly on the case.
