Glavchev: Illegal migration attempts have decreased by 70% - 1

„On migration issues, I can say that the Bulgarian position will be protected. I also plan to brag: attempts at illegal migration have decreased by 70%. There is also a threefold increase in the number of detainees. I think this will be taken into account by colleagues from the European Council. This was stated by Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev before the start of the Council in Brussels, where migration will be one of the topics discussed. European leaders are expected to discuss European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen's proposal to create centers for illegal migrants outside the borders of the European Union, where people can reside temporarily until they are returned to their countries of origin.

"External borders must be guarded, which we also do, thanks to the cooperation with Turkey. Outsourced centers for migrants are not a bad idea at all and we will support it," the Prime Minister pointed out.

The summit in Brussels will also be attended by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who is expected to present his "Plan for Victory" to the European leaders. "I would call it the "Peace Formula". We are yet to discuss it. Our position has not changed. We, as an official government, will adhere to the decisions of the National Assembly", Glavchev was categorical.

According to him, a decision can be expected in December on the abolition of checks at the land Schengen borders of Bulgaria and Romania. "You know that by default this can be expected in December, when the next meeting of the European interior ministers is. We may get news sooner. I don't want to comment further. As long as it doesn't happen, it hasn't happened," Glavchev pointed out.
