A Romanian truck hit a school bus carrying 19 children from Svishtov to the surrounding villages, BNR reported.
Two children were slightly injured. "One has a split eyebrow, the other has a bruised shoulder, they are very scared. The parents, the municipality, the teachers were notified immediately. The parents have taken all the children to their homes", informed the mayor of Svishtov, Gencho Genchev.
Police operations are currently underway. Emergency teams also responded to the scene of the accident.
"The driver is very stressed. They were seconds away from a serious tragedy with a head-on collision. This is also from the testimony of the people who saw the incident," Genchev points out.
The children in the school bus were returning from Svishtov to their homes in the villages of Vardim, Novgrad and Karamanovo. According to initial information, at a bend in the road in Vardim, shortly before 4 p.m., a bullet train with Romanian registration entered the oncoming lane. To avoid a more serious collision, the school bus made a maneuver by going off the roadway and was slightly struck from the side by the truck.
Traffic in the area of the accident is difficult.
