Demographic data show that in 2023 we had a large mechanical growth. If the trend continues this year, then we have reached the breaking point - a restart of the demographic process. Life is an absolutely unique miracle. Every moment when you are healthy, your loved ones are well and you are not at war is a gift from God and you should be happy about it. This motivates me every day, said in the studio of "Wake Up" the writer, demographer and university lecturer Assoc. Prof. Georgi Bardarov.
According to him, family is a value in our country, and people prefer to gather on holidays, despite the global world. "The moment is coming when smaller settlements will become increasingly attractive for young people to live in. I predicted this process of reverse migration would happen in about 20 years. We are increasingly seeing young and qualified people of working age choosing the peace of the villages. In order for them to recover, there must be road and social infrastructure", pointed out Bardarov.
"Demographic data show that in 2023 we had a large increase. On average, from 1990 until the beginning of the pandemic, Bulgaria decreased by up to 60,000 people - the size of a medium-sized city. A year ago, the decrease was only 2,200 people. The negative natural increase is compensated by the very high mechanical increase. If the trend continues this year, then we have reached the breaking point. Young Bulgarians have changed their attitudes - they want to live and work in our country much more, despite the political situation," he said.
According to him, the claim that Bulgaria has a low birth rate is a myth. "It is absolutely normal for a developed European country - 1.8. This places us in third place in Europe. India, for example, has a coefficient of 2.1. This process will go through the entire world, only a dozen countries have over 3," the demographer explained.
