Over 30 livestock breeders organized an indefinite protest and blocked the Karnobat - Shumen road near the village of Sigmen. The reason for their dissatisfaction is the unclear situation with the sick sheep on a local farm and, according to them, the insufficient measures taken by the state, BGNES reported.

The protesters placed two tractors on the road, stopping traffic in the area. Farmers from Aytos and Karnobat joined the demonstration, and support is also expected from colleagues from Velingrad.

The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) announced that samples taken from the farm for foot-and-mouth disease, sheep and goat measles, as well as for plague in small ruminants were negative. Additional tests for clostridium, pasteurellosis and listeriosis have also not established the presence of these diseases.

"The widespread claims about plague in small ruminants on the farm in the village of Sigman are manipulative", the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency is categorical.

Since the beginning of December, more than 20 sheep have died on the affected farm. The livestock breeders are demanding the introduction of a 3-kilometer quarantine zone around the farm and the killing of the sick animals.

The Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Burgas informs that no official application has been submitted to hold a protest, which makes the organizers subject to sanctions under the Road Traffic Act.
