We do not expect traffic jams to form at "Kulata". In the last two weeks, we have expanded the approach to the checkpoint with two lanes in each direction, that is, two lanes come in and two lanes cross the bridge. There should be no traffic jam. We are confident that there will be a flow at a normal speed. The construction of the bridge over which traffic is carried out will be checked by a special commission, as security is important, and an increase of over 30 percent in tourist flow is expected.
This was said by the acting Minister of Regional Development and Public Works Violeta Koritarova-Kasabova at the border checkpoint.
She defined the Kresna Gorge as the most dangerous section on the road to the Republic of Greece and added that work is being done to move motor vehicle traffic outside the settlement. "The section is indeed very dangerous. Our goal is to create safe conditions. We have been working in this direction for a whole year. In December, we also announced the detailed development plan for the bypass of the city of Kresna, because there is one of the conflict points that must be overcome. If there is no appeal of the administrative procedure, it will be approved by March 2025. In the second half of 2025. year we will be able to secure the terrain, carry out the expropriation procedures, and then begin the actual construction of the bypass route," explained Minister Koritarova.
Acting Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev visited the “Kulata“ border checkpoint on the first day of the new year 2025 together with Minister of Tourism Evtim Miloshev and Minister of Regional Development Violeta Koritarova and Director of the General Directorate “Border Police“ Chief Commissioner Anton Zlatanov.
Commissioner Anton Zlatanov assured that the “Border Police“ is extremely prepared for work in Schengen.
