Another case of a driver driving his car in the oncoming traffic on a highway. A 76-year-old man from Novi Pazar was found to be driving a car with 2.08 per mille of alcohol.
He was behind the wheel of a car with a Shumen registration and was driving in the oncoming traffic on the “Hemus“ highway.
Shortly after 6:15 p.m. last night, the duty unit of the regional directorate in Shumen received signals that a car was driving in the overtaking lane of the highway, against traffic, in the direction of Varna-Shumen.
A team of “Traffic Police“ stopped the car near a gas station near Novi Pazar.
A 76-year-old man was in the driver's seat, visibly intoxicated. He was tested with a breathalyzer, and 2.08 per mille of alcohol was recorded in the driver's exhaled air.
He refused to give a blood sample for analysis and was detained for up to 24 hours at the police station in Shumen.
The car was seized with a voluntary surrender report. Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated.
