There are no other defendants in the pre-trial proceedings, since the evidence collected in the case indicates that the perpetrator of the crime is only the accused Kiril Petkov. He totally exceeded his rights and powers, ordered, without such legal grounds, to arrest certain people, ordered police officers, without their authority, to carry out investigative actions, contrary to the law, in the dark of the day, without the permission of a court. This was stated at a media briefing by supervising prosecutor Angel Kanev regarding the indictment of former Prime Minister Kiril Petkov, quoted by novini.bg.
According to him, dozens of witnesses were questioned, there is written and electronic evidence and video recordings.
He stressed that the investigation was not delayed at any point, pointing out that witness interrogations were carried out until last week.
There is not a single witness and not a single piece of evidence that indicates that Kiril Petkov is not the author of the crime he is accused of,Kanev told journalists.
Angel Kanev rejected the accusations against him that he is a “political swindler“ and specified that he was randomly selected by computer to be the supervising prosecutor in this case.
„Neither the defense nor the accused Kiril Petkov asked me to recuse myself. They themselves said that they had no grounds or arguments for this and it is recorded in the witness interrogation protocol. I do not feel like a political jackass, as I have no commitment to any political organization or party in the country. I have not even voted for anyone for over ten years“, Kanev explained.
From his words it also became clear that Asen Vassilev, Lena Borislavova and former Interior Minister Boyko Rashkov were not questioned because none of them had anything to do with the arrest of Boyko Borisov, Vladislav Goranova and Sevdelina Arnaudova.
We recall that on December 9, 2024 Acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov submitted a request to the 51st National Assembly to lift the immunity of MP Kiril Petkov. According to the state prosecution, Kiril Petkov ordered the arrests of Boyko Borisov, Vladislav Goranov and Sevdelina Arnaudova and, as prime minister, exceeded his authority. According to the prosecution, Petkov's goal was to cause the three "harm, which is expressed in undermining their prestige and good name in society."
