More than 20 drivers in the Blagoevgrad region have been fined by law enforcement for not clearing their cars of snow. This was stated at a press conference by the head of the "Traffic Police" sector at the Regional Directorate (RD) of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Blagoevgrad, Chief Inspector Sergey Aleksov.

He called on drivers to clear their cars of snow in order to ensure smooth and accident-free movement. According to the head of the "Traffic Police" sector, if it is found that the car has not been cleared of snow, without other accompanying violations, the driver will be sanctioned with a ticket in the amount of 50 leva.

Regarding the traffic situation and road cleaning, Chief Inspector Sergey Aleksov said that the obligations of the institutions are clearly and precisely set out in the law.

In populated areas, roads are cleaned by municipalities, and outside populated areas - by the regional road department in Blagoevgrad. The Chief Inspector appealed to both drivers and citizens to refrain from reporting uncleaned streets to the 112 telephone number. He reminded that the national 112 telephone number is used to report crimes committed and crisis situations that have arisen. According to the chief, in the last two days alone, hundreds of calls have been redirected from the 112 hotline with reports of uncleaned areas.

Chief Inspector Sergey Aleksov reminded that the employees of the ODMVR cannot clean roads.

"Our duty in this matter is to secure the road and, if necessary, stop or redirect traffic so that everything is as it should be and to prevent harmful consequences," said the head of the "Traffic Police" sector, quoted by BTA.

According to information from Chief Inspector Sergey Aleksov, the roads on the territory of the ODMVR in Blagoevgrad are currently passable in winter conditions. Partial restrictions for trucks have been introduced through the "Predel" pass, on the road to the "Stanke Lisichkovo" border checkpoint and on the road through Yundola to Velingrad. The Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications-Blagoevgrad called on drivers to comply with winter traffic conditions.
