„The head of the RIA Yordan Valchev has shown negligence in the issue of the Pleven-Lukovit road. It has not been repaired in more than 20 years.“ This was commented by Andrey Tsekov, a deputy from the PP-DB parliamentary group and former Minister of Regional Development and Public Works.
It was on this road section that 12-year-old Siyana died.
„There is a signal from the State Road Safety Agency that the road must be repaired. There is inaction on the part of the RIA. Because of this, the chairman of the RIA Management Board must be dismissed“ , said Andrey Tsekov.
He added that there is documentation that the road section near Radomirtsi is in very poor condition.
„In 2022, the agency found that the road was in poor condition, announced a public procurement for the preparation of a major repair project, including in the section between Telish and Radomirtsi. The tender documentation itself indicates that the road is in very poor condition and explicitly mentions that in the area of the village of Radomirtsi there is a section with poor road surface condition and deep ruts have formed. It was for this location in February 2022 that a contract was concluded for the preparation of the major repair project. In 2023, a partial payment was made under this contract, and in 2024, the technical project was prepared,“ said Tsekov.
And he specified that in the summer of 2024, the State Agency for Road Safety released a report to the “Road Infrastructure“ Agency, stating that this particular section has an increased accident rate and a critical risk of road accidents.
Tsekov stated that in his capacity as regional minister, when he appointed the head of the RIA, he considered that his expertise would be useful to society.
The current Minister of Regional Development and Public Works bears responsibility for his actions and inactions, the PP-DB MP noted.
“The moment I became regional minister, a mudslinging attack began against me and my family. "As a result of this attack, I filed lawsuits against media outlets that are connected to Delyan Peevski," commented Andrey Tsekov.
