The problems with the newly built expressway between Mezdra and Botevgrad, part of the international route E-79, do not stop and it seems that the dreams of the entire Northwest for normal movement will be shattered again. The deadline for the launch of the road is approaching, but whether this will really happen and if so, for how long - only time will tell.
The latest footage sent to the editorial office of the BulNews agency is not at all optimistic. They show that the asphalt has split on a brand new, still unfinished and unused section of the road. We are talking about the newly laid pavement at the “Mezdra“ motorway. The photos show a huge crack that should not exist on a road that has not yet been put into operation.
The photo makes it clear that the wear layer of asphalt has not yet been laid. Before that happens, however, the builders need to make sure that no new similar problems will arise.
The site is one of two where hard work has been in full swing in recent months. There, as well as at the “Darmantsi“ junction, employees worked intensively and it was expected that the two junctions would be put into operation without any problems at the end of June.
What was expected to delay the date were the still incompletely strengthened landslides and the unfinished bridges, overpasses and tunnels along the route.
Unfortunately, however, it turned out that problems are sprouting like mushrooms. A little later, another photo circulated on the Internet, showing a wall covered with slabs, visibly giving way. People doubt that the facility will be able to withstand the heavy traffic after the road opens.
The promised date for the launch of the route is the end of June. Whether there will be enough time to remove all obstacles – remains to be seen.
