Interior Ministry Chief: It is still unknown where the prosecutor's son Vasil Mihaylov is - 1

It is still unknown where the prosecutor's son Vasil Mihaylov is and he is being sought.

This was said on “This Morning“ on bTV by Deputy Interior Minister Toni Todorov.

“A pre-trial investigation has been initiated under the supervision of the Sofia District Prosecutor's Office for crimes related to threats of murder. The crime itself was committed on June 12 in an area near Pernik“, Todorov specified.

“The case is being worked on. There will be no inaction in terms of searching for the person“, Todorov said.

According to him, Mihaylov is on the territory of Bulgaria and all necessary actions have been taken to prevent him from leaving the country.

“I hope he will be identified as soon as possible“, the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs added.

“There are two other detained persons in the case who are providing detailed information“, Toni Todorov explained.

However, they are not providing information on where he could be hiding.

For Yavor Georgiev from Varna:

“At the moment when Yavor Georgiev was handcuffed, we categorically condemn the use of force by the police against the detained person“, said Toni Todorov.

“A disciplinary proceeding is currently underway, which we hope will establish in an indisputable manner whether there has been an excess of police power and authority“, he pointed out.

“In such a situation, the adrenaline of the employees rises. Striving to fulfill their duties, they sometimes find themselves in a situation in which they inevitably and unintentionally exceed their authority. Emotions take over“, commented Toni Todorov.

He stated that one of the priority tasks of the Ministry of Interior is to pay special attention and immediately begin an active process of training police officers.

„Minister Daniel Mitov has witnessed many cases in which the Ministry of Interior has had to provide explanations for such cases and wished immediately, in order to raise the authority of the ministry, to take measures regarding the training of employees“, explained Toni Todorov.

According to him, the complex forensic medical examination is about to be released and he called for waiting to see what it will show.

„It is visible to everyone what happens after the handcuffs are put on and we will not escape this responsibility. But it is better to wait for the second forensic medical examination“, Todorov added.

When asked why the police officers' body cameras did not work, he replied that the reason they gave was that the battery had fallen.

We are facing a lot of technical problems with these technical means of video surveillance. Body cameras are a necessary evil“, commented the Deputy Interior Minister.

In this case, the police officers bear disciplinary responsibility.
