Burgas doctor Dr. Tanya Kostadinova has died after two months in a coma, caused by a brutal beating. She was part of the emergency department team at a private hospital in the seaside town. According to witnesses, the woman was attacked in a public place by her former boyfriend and fellow doctor on April 4. Days after that, her condition worsened and she fell into a coma until two days ago, when she died.
The suspect was detained immediately after the act for 72 hours. He has been charged with causing moderate bodily harm.
„From the evidence collected so far in the case, there is no evidence of a repeated attack on Dr. Kostadinova. The accused has dual Turkish and Bulgarian citizenship. He worked together with the victim in the emergency department of a large Burgas hospital. He is currently suspended from his position. He and the injured person had a relationship,” explained Maria Markova from the Burgas District Prosecutor’s Office to “Hello, Bulgaria.”
According to her, the accused is not currently detained, but a coercive measure “ban on leaving the country” has been imposed on him.
Markova emphasized that the blows against the doctor were inflicted in an establishment where she was celebrating with her colleagues. A verbal conflict arose between the two, which escalated into a physical altercation and blows in front of numerous witnesses.
