Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov convened a meeting of the Mechanism for Coordination of Monitoring and Control in connection with the introduction of the euro in the Republic of Bulgaria.
The meeting presented reports from the competent institutions on the progress of preparations for adopting the euro. The implementation of the Plan for Counteracting the Identified Problems and Challenges to the Process of Introducing the Single European Currency was also discussed. During the conversation, mechanisms for increasing coordination and communication between the competent institutions were also discussed. The regulatory framework on the topic was also reviewed, as well as the need for changes.
In the second half of this year, the intensive part of the information campaign for the introduction of the euro in Bulgaria is to be developed. Over 100 events are being prepared to be held throughout the country with the participation of representatives of the government and competent institutions. Citizens and businesses will be provided with full information about the process of transition to the single European currency.
In addition, an active dialogue with local authorities on the topic is already underway.
The meeting also discussed the actions and measures of the Ministry of Interior and the National Security Agency to counter financial crimes, prevent cyberattacks, as well as raise public awareness and counter potential abuses.
