Assoc. Prof. Dr. Borislav Tsekov: Epitaph of the "Change" - 1

The installation of “We continue the change” was an attempt to structurally replace the political reality. Diligently prepared for years, as the apogee of the transformation of part of the networks of the old regime, this attempt was directed and “sold” to our Western partners as a “new era” in Bulgarian politics, in which “the young” would break with the corrupt model of governance and the “conquered state”.

After the fall of communism, the networks of the Bulgarian Communist Party nomenclature and the State Security switched to a “survival and transformation” mode. To begin with, they pushed to the forefront as "cannon fodder" individual informants and functionaries who would take on the “historical guilt” and thus divert attention from the shadowy core that was supposed to retain influence and resources in the new conditions.

Behind this smokescreen, they carried out two transformations in stages - economic and socio-political. With the first, they distributed a large part of the state resources behind the scenes, in a command-administrative manner. They created and directed criminal structures based on the model of the transition in Russia - groups of “guards“ and “insurers”, who would prevent the emergence of free entrepreneurship and amass capital by force, which the network would later legitimize as part of the new market economy controlled by the heirs of the communist elite. On this basis, they began to carry out the socio-political transformation. They acted according to a list - which families could do business, which should develop in politics, which should be given a place in science. All the rest had to be prevented and - as far as possible - suffocated, belittled and ostracized. The targeted implantation of the children and grandchildren of the communist nomenclature and the repressive apparatus of the State Security began in the new social structure, but already as “democrats”, educated abroad with the money from the first transformation. They managed to promote many of them in front of Western naivety and disinterest in the details of our peripheral state, as ardent supporters of Western values and sworn democrats who are the only ones who care about Bulgaria's pro-Western project. Keeping open all the channels of influence built over decades by the Kremlin, the network received “Western” camouflage clothing.

When this socio-political transformation was sufficiently consolidated, the network switched to a "counter-revolution" mode - direct and undisguised participation of the heirs of the old families in the political power of a democratic society. There are many examples, but the real "Overton window" was Sofia Mayor Terziev. A legend and a tool were needed to realize all this. The legend - young, competent, successful and idealistic Harvard graduates who will fix Bulgaria. The tool - the party "Continue the Change".

For the implementation of this part of the "counter-revolution" the Bonapartist impulses of the "Dondukov" installed were stimulated and used 2 from the same network “NATO General”.

During the orchestrated euphoria at the beginning, which was based on public fatigue from the long-term rule of GERB, around “We continue the change” naturally many people with honorable intentions and sincerely seeking some new political alternative also revolved. But the clash with reality during the rule of Kiril Petkov's cabinet started a deep and irreversible erosion.

Even then, on December 29, 2021, just two weeks after the election of Kiril Petkov's government, I gave my analytical assessment and forecast of the political situation and its upcoming development. I wrote:

“Graduated mediocrity and functional illiteracy, behind which economic and foreign interests are visible, are taking over the state. Boys and girls without administrative experience and knowledge of statehood - office plankton, yesterday's interns or junior employees in private companies and offices - are today installed in key management positions. The “Ladybugs” are being replaced by startup ladybugs. Expertise falls below the sanitary minimum. However, the willingness to betray national interests is at its maximum. This invasion of red-necked junta-like people will have long-term consequences for Bulgaria. Change is needed, but for the better. The trouble is that such a change is not coming - because the people do not seek it and do not want it. And the “change” that they are pushing on us is from the current bad to an even worse future. Still, the pro-government clackers will not silence either the prices in the shops, or the electricity and heating bills, or the inflation. It will get worse and worse for ordinary people in the state of Kiro and Lencheto, and better and better for the oligarchy that runs this government. But everything is accurate. And sooner or later it will end humiliatingly and pitifully. A must-see movie.“

Against this background, the network had one problem - their “combat vanguard” was a political minority, with no chance of winning independent government through elections. Therefore, in typical Marxist-Leninist style, they declared something like a “dictatorship of change” - they were the only “democratically legitimate” to govern, no matter what the voters voted for. This brought the political system into a deviant state for a while. For four years, the country's governance was torn apart by political hysteria and primitive revenge, by painful incompetence and ideological bankruptcy. Corruption took on even more monstrous proportions, illustrated by the "cash in bags", the poodles with tufts and the "six percent for the Tsar". What is more dangerous, however, is that any ideas for real reforms were emptied of content, political dialogue was annihilated, and the foundations of democracy were deeply eroded.

The inevitable collapse of this artificial political reality occurred with the failure of the government homunculus of the "assembly", headed by Nikolay Denkov. Donald Trump's historic triumph in the US lifted the political umbrella over the "Change" party, stretched out by the previous administration, and stimulated the beginning of a certain normalization of Bulgarian politics - the restoration of political dialogue and the emergence of the coalition cabinet of Rosen Zhelyazkov, dominated by the party that won the elections.

Today, the epitaph of the "Change" party is being written. What until recently only a few knew or at least suspected is now obvious to everyone - the PP, with the convenient silence (or complicity?) of the DB, has become a generator of systemic corruption, draining public resources into private and party pockets.

The multi-million public procurements in Sofia, of which, according to district mayors, six percent are allocated for the "Tsar", are only the tip of the corruption iceberg. The hypocrisy with which the clientele of the “change” justifies these six percent thefts is disgusting ” “they were young”, “it was a small job”, “they took less than others”, “there was no evidence”. As if the same troubadours needed evidence when from morning till night they practiced their vocal abilities for “the bullions”, “Barcelona” and “the conquered country”.

There is no other party in our recent history with so many leading figures who are on trial, accused or investigated for abuse of power, money laundering, influence peddling, document fraud. In a normal European country, such “politicians” would have long since been removed from public life. Ours are standing and holding on to power to the last, which is not six, but six hundred percent impudence and cynicism. The impudence and cynicism of a corrupt coterie, viciously conceived in the manner described above. The truth is that distinguishing itself from this coterie is a test and measure of the integrity of every true democrat.
