The Ministry of Interior and the National Police do not want to wear body cameras

The arguments that body cameras have already been purchased are not valid

There is a negative opinion with strange conclusions from the Ministry of Interior for our bill, which would oblige all police officers to wear body cameras. There is also a negative opinion from the National Police for our proposal that the National Police cars have video recorders, so that we can be sure that they drive normally, do not bother others on the roads, and when an accident occurs, they do not cover up for the colleague.

This was announced by Ivaylo Mirchev from „We continue the change - Democratic Bulgaria“.

„The bad thing is that we introduced this bill back in 2024, GERB rejected it then. Now we are introducing it again and we hope for a little more sense from the representatives of the people, because we are talking about human lives“, added Mirchev.

“The arguments that body cameras have already been purchased are not valid. The regulation that is currently in place does not work. If it worked, there would be no human lives lost“, he is categorical.

We are about to look at our bill on body cameras at a meeting of an internal committee - all police officers are required to wear body cameras at all times. There is already a negative opinion with strange conclusions from the Ministry of Internal Affairs about our bill. What is even sadder is that we have a negative opinion from the National Police Service as well. Our proposal is that there should be video recorders in the National Police Service's cars, so that we can be sure that they drive normally, do not bother others on the roads, and when an accident occurs, they do not cover up for their colleague. We have a negative opinion on both. This was announced by Ivaylo Mirchev from “We continue the change – Democratic Bulgaria“ before the hearing of Minister Daniel Mitov in the National Assembly.
