Fire in a protected area near Tutrakan - 1

A fire broke out on the territory of the protected area “Kalimok – Brushlen“. According to an approximate estimate, the fire affected an area of about 850 acres. The thick smoke is visible for kilometers, reports Nova TV.

The first signal was for a fire in the land between the villages of Nova Cherna and Tsar Samuil. The area is difficult to access - there are mostly swamps. This also makes it difficult for fire engines and other heavy equipment to access the fire.

The fire department in Tutrakan reported that there are 7 or 8 of them. The only thing firefighters can do at this stage is to ensure duty so as not to allow the fire to spread and reach the settlements.

Deputy Mayor of the city Milen Marinov pointed out that at this stage there is no danger to the population in the area.

The protected area “Kalimok – Brushlen“ is one of the largest in the country. It is a habitat for thousands of protected animal and plant species. The largest colony of Dalmatian pelicans is also located here. According to ecologists, the fire site is about 3 km from them and for now the birds are not in danger. Ornithologists reported that there are about 60 pairs with at least 100 young.
